HINESBURG - Douglas Henry DeVoid, of Hinesburg, died Dec. 10, 2013. He fought a tremendous and lengthy battle with Multiple Myeloma and passed peacefully at home with his wife and daughters by his side. He was born March 28, 1952, and lived the majority of his life in Hinesburg, attending CVU where he was an awarded athlete, and later went on to receive his associate's degree at VTC. He continued to be an avid sports fan throughout his life, cheering on both of his daughters in many sporting venues, as well as his beloved Yankees. He was a passionate outdoorsman and never missed his Thursday night golf league at CKCC. Doug worked in the auto industry from the time he was 18, which included a period of time working on a pit crew for the NASCAR North series. Doug ultimately purchased Dave's Automotive in South Burlington, where he worked throughout his illness. Doug would frequently attribute his work to helping maintain his positive spirit and as a continued motivator to battle myeloma. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Beth Ann (Piantedosi) DeVoid; daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Todd Hinds; daughter, Nicole DeVoid; and grandson, Jackson Hinds. He was predeceased by his father, Carroll Deac DeVoid, and is survived by his mother, Helen DeVoid; sisters, Melanie Bishop and Martha Kapaun; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws and close friends. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the hematology/ oncology department at FAHC, with personal gratitude extended for the selfless care and dedication demonstrated by Dr. Barbara Grant (retired), Dr. Gurpreet Lamba, Joanne Nielson, RN, OCN, and Paul Larson, APRN. The family will celebrate Doug's life with friends and family on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Parish House at the United Church of Hinesburg, where all are welcome to join. The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Chittenden and Grand Isle Counties, c/o Ann Irwin, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, VT 05446.
