STEVEN MICHAEL BAILEY

BURLINGTON - Steven Michael Bailey passed from this life on Dec. 2, 2013, at the age of 37, in the Vermont Respite House in Williston. Steve was born in Washington, Iowa, on Jan. 2, 1976, to Robert Dean and Vicki Carr Bailey. He was a very active member of Boy Scout Troop 242, earning Eagle Scout at 14, and ending with Double Silver Palms. He was also active as a leader of Cub Scout Pack 242. Steve graduated from Washington High School in 1994, and earned two bachelor's degrees from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Steve worked as a chef at Basin Harbor Club, Vergennes, Vt.; Everglades Club, Palm Beach, Fla.; Bald Peak, Moultonboro, N.H.; and, Jupiter Island, Jupiter Island, Fla. Most recently, Steve was employed with Sodexo on the UVM Campus in Burlington. Steve married Jeanne Hastings on Oct. 23, 2005, in Lunenberg, Vt. They have a four-year-old son, Caleb. In April 2009, Steve became a Master Mason at Washington Lodge #3 in Williston. He especially enjoyed taking part in the Degree work. Steve currently holds the Junior Warden position. He attained his 32nd Degree in April 2011. Steve and Jeanne joined the order of the Eastern Star on Oct. 30, 2013, in Williston. Steve started the Grand Master Relay for Life Team in honor of Phil Morton in 2013. He and his team raised over $5,000 for the American Cancer Society and won the award for the largest team in their category. Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents, Howard and Ethel Maye Churchill Bailey and Orin Carr, all of Washington, Iowa. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Hastings, and their son, Caleb, of Burlington; his parents; sister, Carol Blodgett and husband, Roger, of Pryor, Okla.; and brother, Bob Bailey and wife, Mary, of Washington, Iowa. Services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 38 So. Winooski Avenue, Burlington, with a reception to follow.
