SOUTH BURLINGTON - James M. (Jim) Martin, of 412 Farrell St., South Burlington, formerly of Williamstown, passed away in Fletcher Allen Health Care. Born July 5, 1930, he was the son of Annie K. Martin and Harrison B. Martin, Sr. He attended school in Williamstown where he was a valued member of the baseball and basketball teams. Jim served in the U.S.A.F. from 1950-1954, thirteen months of which were in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He rose to the rank of Staff Sgt. before being discharged in June 1954. In 1953, before returning to Vermont, he married Norma J. Dollinger. They had a son, James M. Martin (Mickey) and a daughter, Catherine A. Martin (Katy). Jim worked first for New England Telephone, then G.E., and retired from Howard Health Services in 1992. Survivors include his exwife, Norma Martin, his son-in-law, Kevin Whalen, and a granddaughter, Megan Whalen, all of Maryland; sisters, Velma Walker of Barre, Marion Drew of Montpelier, Hilda Carrier of Burlington, and Centhy Duff and her husband, Raymond, of Barre. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as his many dear friends of Grand Way Commons, especially Greg Weaver, who assisted him in many ways. Also special friends Van, Khean, Carol and Jonathan Ho. He was predeceased by his parents; his children; and siblings, Stanley Martin, Harry Martin, Virginia Cline and Margaret Sumner. Burial will be in Vermont Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Randolph at the convenience of his family. There are no calling hours. Stephen C. Gregory is in charge of arrangements.
