GRAND ISLE - Robert Arthur Busch, 84, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at his home. Bob was born on Jan. 14, 1929, to H. Arthur and Katherine Busch of Hollis Woods, N.Y. He graduated as valedictorian from both Brooklyn Technical High School and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. After earning a master's degree from New Jersey Institute of Technology, he pursued a career in chemical engineering at Esso Research and Engineering in Florham Park, N.J. Bob served in the Army for two years, and married Greta Schnakenberg of Hollis Woods, N.Y, in 1957. Bob and Greta started a family with twins, Richard and Robert, followed by two more sons, Roger and Douglas. Together as a family, and often along with their dog, Danny, they enjoyed hiking, camping, canoeing and sailing. Bob was a dedicated Scout Master for all his sons and hundreds of other boys. After raising their family in Basking Ridge, N.J., Bob and Greta retired to Grand Isle in 1987, where they hosted many gatherings enjoyed by family and friends. Woodworking was a lifelong passion for Bob. Over the years, he meticulously crafted five kitchens, countless pieces of furniture, toys and signs throughout Grand Isle. Bob leaves behind his loving wife, Greta; and four sons and their families, Richard, Susan, Ryan, Austin and Adam Busch of Williston; Robert, Mary, Katherine and Peter Busch of Westford; Roger, Jennifer, Caroline and Meredith Busch of Glen Rock, N.J.; and Douglas, Valerie and Derek Busch of Belford, N.J. Bob's kind and generous heart is known to many. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
