BURLINGTON - Stanley Gordon Roberts, born April 10, 1939, in Hartford, passed away on June 13, 2013, in Birchwood Nursing Home after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Stan graduated from Hartford High School in 1958, and married Sheila A. Stanford in 1960 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in White River Junction. He served in the VT Army National Guard during high school and the Berlin Crisis. Out of high school, Stan went to work for The Cross Abbott Co. He worked for many years as a meat cutter at Cross Abbott and P&C. In 1979, he bought a mom and pop store with Sheila in South Burlington, and prided himself on providing the best cuts of meat possible to his customers. After eight years of 14-hour days, seven days a week, he sold the store and went to work as a Sales Manager for the State of VT Lottery Commission, until 2003. Stan loved spending time at camp in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, where he would hunt, fish and spend many good times with family and friends. He was a member of the Elks Club both in White River Junction and Burlington. Stan is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sheila; daughter, Anne-Marie (Roberts) Dubie and fiance, Richard Grant; daughter, Mary Beth (Roberts) Bouvier and husband, Mike; grand- children, Kristine Dubie, Donald J. Dubie Jr., Jacob Bouvier, Matt Bouvier, and Sarah Bouvier; sister, Martha Boucher and husband, Joe; brother, Raymond Roberts and wife, Doris; and several nieces and nephews. Stan was predeceased by his father, Stanley E. Roberts and mother, Doris (Clifford) Roberts.
