STARKSBORO -- Robert Francis Didyoung Jr., 62, of Starksboro, journeyed on to his next adventure on May 16, 2014, in the arms of his loving wife, Ellen. Bob fought a valiant battle with cancer without a complaint, always with a smile and always positive.
Bob was born on March 1, 1952, to Robert Francis Didyoung Sr. and Irene B. Didyoung. Bob graduated from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, Pa., in 1974, and Georgia State in 1977, with a degree in respiratory care. Bob worked both as and in and outpatient respiratory care provider throughout the state of Vermont, providing assistance to those with respiratory needs.
In 2003, Bob chose to obtain a teaching certificate from St. Michael's College, which he achieved in 2006. He taught middle school math in public schools, until he had to slow down. His last position in teaching was his favorite, as a tutor for VSAC where he taught basic math skills to individual students. Bob was also very involved in the Starksboro Water Co-op and served as a committee member and worked with the conservation committee on the towns walking path.
Bob was predeceased by his father, Robert Francis Didyoung Sr., in 2002, and is survived by his adoring wife, Ellen Phelps Didyoung; their four sons, Jeremy, Jason, Jacob, and Joseph Didyoung; four grandchildren; mother, Irene B. Didyoung; brother, Tim and wife, Marie Didyoung; sister, Kathy and husband, Barry Shay; sister, Anne and husband, Chris Cutler; sister, Sue and partner, Mark; and a long list of extended family and friends.
A very special thanks to Dr. Jason Gramling, Dr. Julian Sprague and the entire staff of Shep 4. Without them, Bob's peaceful journey would not have happened.
Visiting hours to celebrate Bob will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Stephen C. Gregory and Son Cremation Service, 472 Meadowland Dr., Suite 7, South Burlington. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at 10 a.m. at The Church of St. Benedict, in Mohnton, Pa.
