MONKTON -- Carleton Albert DeCoster, 70, passed away peacefully at his home in Monkton on July 28, 2014. He was a man of famously few words, informed by great wisdom and a wonderfully dry wit.
Born in Lewiston, Maine, Sept. 19, 1943, Carl lived the simple yet rich life of an avid outdoorsman, becoming a husband, father and grandfather along the way. He served honorably with the US Army during the Vietnam War.
Carl was predeceased by his parents, Chester and Laura DeCoster, formerly of West Sumner, Maine. He is survived by his wife, Claire (Bergeron); brothers, Paul and Clyde; children and their families, Dwight, Nancy, Roy, and Ginny; stepchildren, Lisa, Joe, Laurie, Roger, Laura, Steve, and Laurie; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carl was also both predeceased and survived by innumerable fantastic friends and hunting buddies across New England, many of whom he was accustomed to conferring with daily at Vermont Field Sports in Middlebury.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church in Bristol, followed immediately by a reception at the American Legion on Airport Drive. Online condolences may be made at www.gregorycremation.com.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the "1,250 Miles for Carl DeCoster Fundraiser" at www.gofundme.com/bktfds, benefiting children with cancer and wounded veterans.
