SHELBURNE -- Mary L. August, 93, passed away Aug. 10, 2014, at The Lodge at Shelburne Bay, Shelburne.
She was born in Plainfield, N.J., on July 10, 1921, the daughter of Rudolf and Ludmila (Nemcic) Lukacovic, and married Stanley August on Jan. 24, 1948. She grew up in New York City and worked as an executive secretary for the W.T. Grant Co. She lived most of her life in Scotch Plains, N.J., as a homemaker and great mom to her two daughters, hospital volunteer, Girl Scout leader, extraordinary needle worker, and lifetime bridge player. She was an insatiable reader and loved the NY Times Sunday crossword puzzle. She was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church until she and Stan moved to Vermont in 2006 to be closer to family.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathye August Boll and son-in-law, Tom, of Colchester; grandchildren, Megan Boll LaRose and husband, Jon, Lindsay H. Boll and fiance, Mike Jones, Dr. Griffin T. Boll, and Courtney Palmer Donaldson and husband, Travis; great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Penelope LaRose; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Jane August Palmer; husband, Stan; and brothers, Louis and Rudy.
Special thanks to Dr. Frank Landry, VNA hospice nurse, Mary Loney, and Dennis Beauregard and the wonderful care staff at The Haven, for all the love and support you gave to her and our family during her nine lives. "Queen Mary," we will miss her.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church in Shelburne on Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at 10 a.m. She will be buried at the family plot in Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains, N.J., at a later date. Arrangements are by Stephen C. Gregory and Son Cremation Service of Shelburne.
