Betty Duby Valyou, 88, died peacefully at the University of Vermont Medical Center on Oct. 16, 2015. Betty was born in Burlington, VT on Jan. 29, 1927, the daughter of Doris Ransom and Alvin Duby. She was a graduate of Essex Center high school in 1944, and received her R.N. in 1947 from the Cadet Nurses Corp. of Fanny Allen Hospital. Betty and Lester Valyou were married in 1949, had eight children, and were together for 63 wonderful years. Betty was a wonderful and devoted mother, home maker, and wife. Volunteering was how she filled her time. She was involved with 4-H, St. Pius X Church, schools, and Whitcomb Woods to name a few. Betty loved her flowers, her friends, her family and hugs. Betty's faith showed in everything she did. Betty and Lester were charter members of St. Pius X Church. She was predeceased by 3 sons William, William, and Robert, and her husband Lester. She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Daniel Valyou and Mary Alberelli of Burlington, VT; Rosemarie McClafferty and Pat of NC; Susan Gray and Tom Parker of Fairfax, VT; Kathleen Carew and Jim of Jericho, VT; and Patricia Fagnant and Tim of Essex, VT. Her children blessed her with ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Faith Valyou, Monica McClellan and John Duby, and several dear friends.
