CLAIRE K. PEASE - ESSEX JUNCTION - Claire K. Pease, 95, passed away on April 13, 2015, surrounded by her family at her home in Essex Junction. She was born in Detroit, Mich., on Sept. 12, 1919, the daughter of Harry and Harriet Kanouse. She was happily married to Dr. Richard E. Pease, M.D., for 65 years. In 1969, they moved to Jericho. Her welcoming home was a magnet for extended family members of five generations and friends and neighbors who were frequent visitors. Claire was always impeccably dressed for all occasions. She delighted in cooking for a crowd, always trying new recipes. Her houseplants thrived under her care. She loved to knit and always won during family games of Scrabble or cards, often to the chagrin of her husband, Dick. In the community, Claire served by delivering Meals On Wheels and volunteering at the Old Mill Craft Shop in Jericho. Claire was predeceased by her husband, Dick; and youngest son, Richard, Jr. She is survived by her children, John Jewell, Jr., and his wife, Kathleen, of Wisconsin, Brian Jewell of Tennessee, Gretchen Cannady and Larry Brown of Burlington, Cindy Jensen and husband, Chuck, of Denver, Colo., Peter Pease and Barbara Page of Underhill, Heidi Simpson and husband, Brunzevel, of Detroit, Mich.; and many grand and great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their appreciation for Claire's close neighbors and friends, the staff at McClure floor at UVM Medical Center, the VNA Hospice Care Team, the caregivers at Mansfield Place, and the special ladies of Silver Leaf In-Home Care; all of whom made Claire's last years of life a true comfort. Arrangements are in care of Stephen C. Gregory and Son Cremation Service, South Burlington. A memorial celebration for Claire will be arranged for later in the spring at the time of the interment.
