Mary Jane (Tucker) Thieret went to be with her Savior on April 15, 2015, in Burlington, Vermont, at the age of 84. Mary Jane was born on May 29, 1930 in Johnson City, New York, the daughter of Tracy Judson Tucker and Irene (Savage) Tucker.
While attending Baptist Bible Seminary in her hometown, she met Eugene Thieret. They were married at the First Baptist Church in Johnson City in 1949 and had six children together. Mary Jane was a homemaker, a housewife and mother. She loved to spend her time entertaining church members and missionaries from around the world who visited on furlough. She and her husband were very active serving God with their church families in Northfield, Ohio; Johnson City, New York; Burlington; and Williston. Her participation included teaching Sunday school, singing in the church choir, playing saxophone with the church ensemble, leading Bible groups, and orchestrating the Vacation Bible School summer program. Many years were spent in her love of teaching children through the Child Evangelism Fellowship, and as Christian Education Director for the district.
Mary Jane worked for the Bureau of Reclamation in Washington, D.C. during the early years of her marriage. When her husband’s work transferred them to Princeton, New Jersey, she complimented her social skills with a job with Welcome Wagon, working her way up to district supervisor. She continued working with them when the family moved to Vermont where she became manager of the state. It was also here in Vermont that her love for music branched out to include barbershop singing with the Champlain Echoes and the Sweet Adelines in Burlington. In 1971, she accepted a position at the University of Vermont in the Microbiology and Biochemistry department. Twenty years later, she retired from UVM and began enjoying a much-deserved retirement with her husband in their South Burlington home.
She is survived by her six children; Dr. Tracy Thieret and his wife Suzanne (Beaudry) of Webster, New York, Sandy Pariseau and her husband Raymond of Hartland, Pamela Osborne and her husband Steve of Williston, Martin Thieret and his wife Kelly (Bucke) of Swanton, Pastor Mark Thieret and his wife Wendy (Ronk) of Lancaster, Ohio, and Scott Thieret of Nashua, New Hampshire; grandchildren Benjamin Thieret, Cameron Barden (and his partner Marissa DeRose), Joseph Thieret, Derek Thieret (and his wife Sarah), Zachary Barden, and Micah Thieret; and her first great-granddaughter, Chloe Grace DeRose-Barden. In addition to her husband’s sisters Halcyon Strickland and Rachel Palmer of Norwalk, Ohio, she is also survived by her sister Linda Lott and her husband Kenneth of Dallas, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Eugene G. Thieret, her grandson Samuel Tucker Thieret, and her sister, Betty Lou Krewson of Raleigh, North Carolina.
A celebration of her life will be held at Christ Memorial Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2015. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary Jane's name to NETS Institute for Church Planting at 999 Essex Road in Williston, VT 05495. Arrangements are in the care of Stephen C. Gregory & Son, South Burlington, VT.
