Richard E. Dufresne died peacefully on December 5, 2017 after a brief illness at the age of 86. Dick was born January 8, 1931, the youngest child of Timothy and Irene Dufresne. "The Duke," as he was affectionately known to many, was renowned for his kindness and generosity to all who crossed his path. An open door, open heart, open mind, and open wallet were all hallmarks of his nature. Neighbors, friends, family, and friends of friends and family always knew they could come to him at any time if they were in need of a ride, a loan, a meal, a place to stay, or just a good story and some laughs.
Dick was predeceased by his parents, siblings, and his beloved son Glenn Kelly. Surviving family members include his loving daughter Autumn and adoring grandson Connor, his sister Lorraine, four nieces and nephews, as well as their children and grandchildren, all of whom he treasured. Also survived by his cousin and longtime horse partner Todd Rooney, his exceptional best friend since the third grade, Bill Skiff and the Skiff family, and his loving former wife and lifelong family partner Janet Dufresne.
The family wishes to especially thank the affectionate fellowship and support of Starr Farm Residence and exceptional nursing and staff of UVMC Baird 3.
A memorial service will be scheduled for Spring 2018 at St. George's cemetary in Bakersfield, VT. Date TBD.
In lieu of flowers and in keeping with his giving nature, donations can be made to Committee On Temporary Shelter (COTS,) serving Vermont.
