Carol Stickney Burdett -Shelburne-
Carol Stickney Burdett, 80, passed away peacefully at the McClure Miller VNA Respite House on Sunday, June 10, 2018 after a brief illness with cancer. Carol was born on September 29, 1937 to the late Edgar and Mildred Stickney in Norwich, VT. She grew up in Rutland and Montpelier.
Carol graduated from the University of Vermont in 1959 with a degree in education. She taught grade school before returning to her alma mater to teach in the Special Education Department. It was there she also received her Doctorate in Education in 1989.
Carol married John Hollister Burdett in 1958 and together they raised three children in Shelburne. She loved reading, chasing hot air balloons and spending time with her grandchildren. When John passed away in 2006, Carol went to work at the Shelburne Museum for a short time.
Carol is survived by her husband, Ron Baker; three children, Holli (Al) Duthie, of Rochelle, IL, Jay (Kristen), of Charlton, NY, and Josh (Cindy) of Juno Beach, FL; seven grandchildren, Brad (Catherine) Duthie of Stirling Scotland, Emily (Michael) David of Lake Villa IL, Jessica Burdett of New York City, Taylor Burdett of Concepcion, Chile, Jackson Burdett of Charlton, NY, Ethan Burdett of Waterbury Center, and Eric Duthie of Chicago; as well as one great-granddaughter, Claire Hollister David.
Carol is preceded in death by her husband John Burdett and two siblings, Linda Mathewson and John Stickney. `
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Stephen C. Gregory and Son Cremation Services and will be announced at a later date.
