Dr. Carol Stickney Burdett, Phd -Shelburne-
Carol Burdett, 80, passed away peacefully at the McClure Miller V.N.A. Respite House on Sunday, June 10, 2018 after a brief illness with cancer. Carol was born on September 29, 1937 to the late Edgar Stickney and Mildred (Conner) Stickney in Norwich, VT. She grew up in Rutland, Montpelier and Essex Junction.
In 1958, Carol married John Burdett. Together they raised three children in Shelburne. John passed away after a long illness in 2006.
Carol graduated from the University of Vermont in 1959. She taught primary school in Essex Junction and Shelburne. In 1970 she completed a Masters Degree in Special Education after which she taught in the Education Department of the University of Vermont until she retired in 2000. She earned her Doctorate in Education in 1989.
Of all her passions, Carol’s grandchildren gave her the greatest joy. She loved reading, chasing hot air balloons and traveling. Carol was active in Trinity Episcopal Church of Shelburne. She taught spinning for seniors at the Shelburne Fitness Center. For a number of years she worked a seasonal job at the Shelburne Museum Store where she met her second husband, Ronald Baker in 2009.
Carol is survived by her husband, Ronald Baker; her children, Holli (Al), Jay (Kristen), and Josh (Cindy), and step-children Gabriel and Benjamin; seven grandchildren, Bradley (Catherine), Emily (Michael), Jessica, Taylor, Jackson, Ethan, and Eric; and great-granddaughter, Claire.
Carol is preceded in death by her husband John and siblings Sue Ellen, Linda and John.
A Celebration and Thanksgiving of Carol’s life is being held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Shelburne. The service and reception beginning at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 4. Donations may be made in memory of Carol to the McClure-c vMiller VNA Respite House, 3113 Roosevelt Hwy, Colchester, VT 05446
