Just as the sun was starting to come up on June 30, 2018, Ladislav Mernicky passed away peacefully at the UVM Medical Center surrounded by his family, leaving us with a lifetime of memories. These last few years were tough due to his Alzheimer’s, but he is now at peace.
Ladislav was born in Jaslovske Bohunice, Slovakia on June 16, 1944 to Arpad & Helena Mernicky. He was talented in arts, music and mathematics and became a math & art teacher at a middle school in Bratislava, Slovakia. In 1974 he married Darina Krasna, and had three kids: Alena, Katarina and Matej. In 1988, Ladislav and Darina escaped the communist Czechoslovakia with their three kids, and after two years as refugees in Yugoslavia and Spain, finally arrived in Burlington, VT, on April 25th, 1990 making it their forever home.
Ladislav is survived by his wife of 44 years, Darina, his daughter Alena, her husband Jarret DuBois and their children Maddox and Elyse, his daughter Katarina, her husband Matthew White and their children Sienna and Silas, and his son Matej and girlfriend Raina.
