Michael Robert Taylor, 61, of Barre, passed away on February 6 at Maple Ridge Memory Care in Essex Jct., VT. Michael was born in Atlanta, GA on June 10, 1957 to Margaret (Sullivan) and Robert Taylor. He grew up primarily in Longmeadow, MA graduating from Longmeadow High School and Westfield State College, was named an All-American Scholar and recognized as one of four exceptional graduating seniors in history. He married his soulmate, Karen (Thomas), in 1980 shortly after meeting and working at Riverside Park. Together they had three children. Michael held a variety of jobs throughout his life, but enjoyed his positions at the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier VT and the Hartness Library at VTC in Randolph VT the most. Michael was an active man who liked to walk, ski, listen to music, the Red Sox, attending his children’s sporting events, camping, and playing in local softball and bowling leagues.
Michael is predeceased by his father, Robert, and brother, David. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Taylor, mother Margaret (and Bob) Magovern, sister Jacqueline and brother-in-law Dave Ritchie, adoring children Katie Taylor, Amy Harmon (Taylor), and Benjamin Taylor, son-in-law Ross Harmon, grandchildren Eleanor, Miller, and Henry, nieces and nephews Winston Taylor, David Ritchie, Michael and Ashley Thomas, and extended family Irene and Rene Thomas and Rob and Lori Thomas.
A special thank you to the staff at Maple Ridge Memory Care and UVM Hospice for their care, compassion and dignity provided to Michael as his disease progressed.
