Claire Fosher 1932 - 2019
On April 24th our loving mother Claire Genevieve Fosher, age 87, passed on to join God, her infant son Mitchell, her mother Odella and our father Chudleigh, the love of her life, in heaven. She died peacefully after a courageous battle with multiple illnesses over the past several months.
She was born in Rouses Point, New York to Odella and Henry Caron. After growing up in Rouses Point, mom went on to school to become an airline attendant and earn her wings from American Airlines. She also worked at Ma Bell as a telephone operator and latter went on to work at IBM. On one of her trips back home, she met our father Chudleigh on the train. After much coaxing Dad got mom to agree to go on a date and they married on the 4th of February 1956. Our mother always loved animals and children and changed her career path to become a stay-at-home mother to four girls. She used to joke about how our father loved women so much God gave him a houseful, right down to all the pets that our family had over the years. Mom loved her family and dedicated her life to raising her children. In addition to her family, she loved gardening, boating on Lake Champlain, picnicking, dancing, music, and her fur-babies. She never turned down any stray animal that we brought home and cared for those little ones as children.
Her ultimate passion though were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her eyes would sparkle and she would light up when they were around. Their accomplishments were her accomplishments. As she watched her family grow, it fueled her desire to live and be part of their lives. She was always there when we needed childcare, comfort and advice. Up until her death she was sharing her knowledge on childhood illnesses and what to expect.
In her later years, our mother liked to play bingo and cards. Her favorite card game was Rummy and she played it like a pro. She looked forward to her afternoon tea and card games with her best friend and brother Marcel. Our mother loved Vermont where she and our father raised their children. They retired in New York to the family home on the peaceful Great Chazy River where she spent the remaining years of her life with our father who predeceased her in 2009 and her eldest daughter Kathie who became mom’s life-long companion and caregiver. Mom loved her faith and was an active member of the catholic church. Over her life she attended Holy Family Parish, Holy Cross Parish, St. Josephs Parish and St. Patricks Parish. She took comfort in attending mass and rosary services up until her death and has truly earned a place in heaven.
Claire is survived by her four daughters, and their spouses, Kathie Fosher, Lynn Fosher and husband Michael Fortney, Kim Barcomb and husband Lance Barcomb, Melissa Hayes and partner Jim Russell; her five grandchildren and their spouses, Laura and Cameron Rissman, Michelle and Cameron Stommel, Lindsay Barcomb and fiancé Jake Meyers, Mitchell and Alysabeth Hayes and First Lieutenant Melanie Hayes; and four great-grandchildren, Olivia Rissman, Madison Stommel, Lucas Stommel, and Grayson Hayes. She is also survived by her older brother Marcel Caron, many nieces and nephews, and her two special companions, her cats Sammy and Buddy.
She is preceded in death by her husband Chudleigh, infant son Mitchell, brothers Larry Caron, Leo Caron, sister Lorraine Marquis, her special dogs Tags, Mitzi and Bow, and cat Tabby. She is survived by her loving brother Marcel Caron of Rouses Point, New York.
The family would like to thank all of the caregivers who helped take care of our mother during her illnesses, especially Dr. King and staff at Hudson Healthwater, Irene and Amy at HCR, staff at Franklin County Health and Rehab, Dr. Wilkenson and staff at Birchwood Terrace Rehab, the physicians and staff at UVM Medical Center and the compassionate and caring staff at the McClure Miller VNA Respite House.
A funeral service will be held at St. Joseph’s Parrish in Cooperville NY, on May 18, 2019 at 11:00 am. Following the service will be a celebration of her life at Amazing Grace Winery in Chazy, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the McClure Miller VNA Respite House, 3113 Roosevelt Highway, Colchester Vermont, 05446.
