Ann Marie Myers, of South Burlington, passed away on April 28, 2019 in Colchester, Vermont.
A Mass of Catholic Burial will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2019, 1:00pm at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in South Burlington. Internment and a celebration of life will follow the mass.
Ann Marie was born in Burlington, Vermont to William and Patricia Courcy on May 21, 1948. She graduated from Winooski High School. She married James W. Cookson on June 21, 1969, they had two sons, Cory J. Cookson of Dayton, Ohio, and Keith D. Cookson of Milton, Vermont. James and Ann were married for 28 years. On August 18, 2007, Ann married James R. (Jim) Myers of South Burlington, Vermont.
Out of High School, she worked for Saint Michaels College, then married and raised her family in various locations including assignments in Pakistan and Germany before returning in 1980, where she began a career of service in city government for 35 years. She worked for both the City of Winooski and Town of Essex, including serving as City Manager of Winooski, where she was instrumental in assisting with the Vermont Refugee Resettlement program, which provided services to thousands of Bosnian refugees.
Ann loved music, going to shows and concerts, traveling, and family gatherings. She was a huge fan of UVM Basketball. Children held a special place in her heart, she supported several children’s charities and organizations.
Ann is preceded in death by her father William E. Courcy, and her mother Patricia F. Courcy.
Ann is survived by her husband of 11 years, Jim Myers; her sons Cory Cookson and his wife Kimberley, Keith Cookson and his wife Joanne; her brothers Terry Courcy and Brian Courcy; her grandchildren Christina Eckley and Michael Cookson.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Alissa Thomas, Dr. Carl Nelson, Dr. Adriane Trout, Nurse Stacey, Nurse Jean Sheehey, Nurse Toni Duclos, Nicki Hawko, OT, Bob Drozynski, PT, and staff of the McClure Miller Respite House.
