John Bernard McNulty, 69, of Jericho, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 23, at the Respite House in Colchester, after a hard battle with liver failure. John was born on Dec. 24, 1949, in Burlington, VT. The only son of Bernard & Dorothy (Chabot) McNulty, he grew up in Winooski and spent many summers in West Bolton. He has two sisters, whom he loved dearly, Nancy and Sandy.
He is survived by his sweetheart of 42 years, Linda (MaGee), and their children, Willie (& his wife Sarah), John “Johnner”, & Erin; Tommy & Gretchen; and daughters Heather & Kelly.
John was a hard worker from a young age, and started working for a builder in his Winooski neighborhood, then roofing, and then started building houses and logging with a good friend. This experience was the foundation for his knowledge that enabled him to build two beautiful homes for his family, as well as ignited one of his greatest passions: logging. He was a great drummer and played in many bands throughout the 60s. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed many years in the woods, hunting & fishing; skills he loved to share with his kids. In 1974, he started his own successful logging business. He taught his youngest son, Willie, all of the tricks of the trade from a young age, and passed on the family business to him in 2007. An excellent carpenter, he gave life to virtually all of Linda’s ideas and upgrades to their family home in Jericho throughout the years. In recent years, you could find John helping customers and moving furniture at The Yankee Pedlar’s Shoppe.
Above all else, John loved his family. In addition to his wife and siblings, he had many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces & nephews whom he cherished. During the last few months, his niece, Kristy & cousin, Rose, spent countless hours at his bedside & talking with his doctors - something his family is very grateful for. He adored all his kids, and grandkids: Alexandra, Rose, Damon, McKinley, Ryann, Kyran, Wakely, Calder, Brynn, Tyler & Zachary.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Essex Alliance Church, Friday, June 28, at 1pm - 37 Old Stage Road, Essex Junction, VT 05452.
