Rick McGowan passed away suddenly June 13, 2019 from a complication resulting from Alzheimer’s disease. He was all action, the guy with the brisk walk, intense stories and a twinkle in his eye, always ready to ‘do the right thing’ or get up and dance. He was well-known for his intelligence, photography, love of adventure and integrity. Rick was born on February 26, 1948.
Rick provided his solar and wind power expertise to water development projects in Yemen, Somalia, Botswana, Lesotho, and Malawi for Associates in Rural Development (ARD). Rick had a lively career as an independent consultant managing projects
throughout Indonesia, Thailand, Burma, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India and the Philippines, and most recently a large project in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Rick left behind a wife, Nancy, and son, Ed; two brothers, Cork and Dennis; a stepmother, Pat; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Many friends will remember him: his Men’s Team of thirty years, close friends from Taipei American school, Peace Corps (Nepal, Class 24), and professional colleagues from around the world. We invite his family and friends to celebrate his life during service to be held at the Unitarian Church, 152 Pearl St. on August 25, 2019 at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Rick’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association would be heartening. Please visit Gregorycremation.com for a more detailed obituary.
Rick lived his life fully.......love, friendships, fun,
adventure, ambition, and acclaim. To the end, Rick was able to maintain excellent quality of life, continued to hike and travel close to home, to have fun with his ‘best girl’ Pidge at the dog park. He was a unique individual and made the world a better place wherever he could.
